Hi All,
Here is my new motto: If you aren’t risking failure, you’re not trying hard enough. For those of you that don’t know a motto is a phrase/bit of wisdom that a person believes in and tries to live by. It is a little like a guide for how you think and live your life.
In case I forgot to mention this I want to thank everyone who came to class in the Ginza in September. Sorry I could not get reservations for October. I’m looking at classes near Oji station now. If anyone lives around there please let me know what you think.
A friend sent me these notes about friends. I think they are easy to agree with. How about you? Do Japanese feel the same way about friends?
To like and dislike the same things, that is true friendship.
I have never had better friends than the ones I had when I was twelve.
Strangers are just friends waiting to happen.
A real friend is one that walks in when the rest of the world walks out.
Make new friends and keep the old. One is silver and the other is gold.
Easy to mix up words:
Angry and agree are words that are easily mispronounced or are difficult for many students to understand and “hear” the difference. Pronunciation is easier if you break up the words. Angry is ang ry. Agree is ah gree. (Gree is pronounced as you would the first part of green.)
Something funny: If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables,
> > what is baby oil made from?
If any of my students can explain that you’ll get a free lesson!
Things I notice in Japan:
Vomit! I have never been anywhere where there is so much vomit so often! Of course, this isn’t a subject so often talked about but, since I am a visitor to Japan, I am always observing the people around me and what Japanese do and how they react.
Things that annoy me in Japan: Why people bring big baby carts to crowded places like the Hokkaido food fair in Ikebukuro? Also, people who have those small suitcases with the wheels and long handle to pull behind them. Don’t you hate them?? Of course they are convenient but taking those kinds of cases through Shinjuku station during morning rush hour is just foolish. I wonder how many people trip over those cases.
One note here about contacting me. If you have classes and can’t come please contact me. You can call and leave a message on my phone if you like. The number is : 08054252674
Have a great weekend,
Randy Miller RCC
